CORNWALL, Ontario – John Sawatis, 37 of Cornwall was arrested On April 30th, 2017 and charged with the following:
- Utter threats of death
- Utter threats to burn property
- Attempt murder
- Arson-Disregard for human life
- Arson-Damage to property
- Sexual assault
- Theft
It is alleged on April 27th, 2017 the man threatened to burn a house while the occupant was inside and in the early morning hours of April 28th, 2017 started a fire at the Louisa Street address.
It is also alleged on April 29th, 2017 the man sexually assaulted a 23-year-old woman known to him and threatened to damage her boyfriend’s vehicle. On the same day the man took another person’s car without permission. As the result of ongoing investigations the man was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.
