UNITED COUNTIES OF SD&G, Ontario – In light of the Fentanyl issue taking place across Canada, a number of community agencies from Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry as well as Prescott-Russell have come together to hold several forums during the month of May for parents and students about Fentanyl and other substances that young people may take.

The forums, titled Fentanyl and Other Substances – Awareness and Prevention, will provide parents and students with information on Fentanyl and opioids in general, as well as other types of drugs. The presentations will also provide parents with tips about how to talk to their teens about drugs and strategies they can use to keep their kids safe.

Dr. Paul Roumeliotis, Medical Officer of Health at the EOHU, encourages parents to attend one of the forums because they can really make a difference when it comes to keeping their kids safe. “Fentanyl has been found in a variety of both fake prescription pills as well as street drugs, so it’s very important for parents to have a discussion with their kids about the dangers of these substances.”

The community agencies involved in the organization of the forums are the Eastern Ontario Health Unit, the Conseil des écoles publiques de l’Est de l’Ontario, the Conseil scolaire de district catholique de l’Est ontarien, the Upper Canada District School Board, the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario, the Town of Hawkesbury, the Hawkesbury General Hospital Mental Health and Addictions department, the Cornwall Community Hospital Addiction and Mental Health Centre, the Ontario Provincial Police for Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry and Prescott-Russell, the City of Cornwall Police Services, Prescott-Russell Emergency Services, and Valoris.
