OTTAWA, Ontario – Check your liquor cabinets, folks.
The Liquor Board of Ontario (LCBO) recently pulled their Bombay Sapphire brand London Dry Gin from shelves due to an unusually high alcohol content. Consumers are urged not to drink the recalled product.
According to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), one batch was bottled before dilution. Consequently, the affected batch contained a sky-high volume of 77% rather than the stated 40% alcohol content by volume.
The recall was initiated by the company. The CFIA is currently conducting a food safety investigation which may lead to the recall of other products. If other high-risk products are recalled, the CFIA will notify the public through updated Food Recall Warnings
The recalled product is currently being removed from the marketplace. While there have been no reports of illness related to the recall, consumers are encouraged to return bottles they suspect may be affected by the recall.
