SOUTH NATION, Ontario – The South Nation Conservation Authority (SNC) and the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) have concluded their investigation into reports of dead fish along the South Nation River.
The SNC received reports of around a hundred dead carp along the river from Crysler to Casselman on June 14 and they then began their investigation and alerted the MOECC.
“There was no evidence of any sort of spill or disaster,” said Melissa Lee, Senior Environment Officer with the MOECC’s Cornwall office. “The SNC determined that the cause was natural.”
According to Lee, the cause of the fish kill was probably a sudden drop in temperature which led to a drop in oxygen levels in the river.
