UNITED COUNTIES OF SD&G, Ontario – Environment Canada is warning that the current heat wave could end with a bang.

The weather service issued a Severe Thunderstorm watch at around 10:47 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 27.

“Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms this afternoon ahead of an approaching cold front,” the statement reads. “The main threat with these thunderstorms are very strong wind gusts. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Hail and locally heavy rain are also possible. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!”

The region has been under a heat wave since the weekend and is currently under a heat warning.
