CORNWALL, Ontario – OPP have found the boater from a vessel found floating upside down in the St. Lawrence River.
OPP are asking for the public's assistance in a mysterious case involving an abandoned vessel floating on the St. Lawrence River.
Police said a 21-year-old South Glengarry man swam to shore after the boat capsized in bad weather. Police do not suspect criminal activity.
The vessel, described as approximately 20ft. in length, white fiberglass with a picture of a fish on the side, was discovered on Oct. 7.
Police responded to a call for assistance, when a passing vessel heard a distress call at approximately 7:50 p.m., near the Quebec/Ontario border.
OPP Marine Units and Emergency Response Team members, with the assistance of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Sûreté du Québec (SQ), Akwesasne Mohawk Police (AMPS), the Canadian Coast Guard and the Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) conducted a search of the area on shore and in the water attempting to locate the operator of the vessel.
