CORNWALL, Ontario - A pair of men who were test-driving a vehicle shortly after changing its oil escaped serious injury when the car went up in flames Thursday afternoon.

One of the men, who declined to give his name, said his friend had just finished working on the vehicle and were testing it out to make sure there were no leaks coming from the engine.

"We noticed that it was smoking and we pulled over," he said. "We looked inside and noticed there was a small fire in there."

The small fire completely destroyed the car.

"It's amazing it only burned for 15 minutes," said the man.

An off-duty Martintown firefighter who was passing the scene tried to help, but there was little he could do without proper firefighting equipment.

The fire occured on Delaney Road near the King's Highway. The car has since been removed from the scene by tow truck.
