CORNWALL, Ontario - A Quebec driver was killed in a crash with a cement barrier during the Sunday night program at the Cornwall Motor Speedway.

Police confirmed Monday morning Danny Lefebvre, of St-Louis De Gonzague, Que., was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Social media lit up with all kinds of reports concerning the status of the driver, following the crash, but it wasn't until Monday thatpolice confirmed the details.

A speedway source said the accident involved Lefebvre, a driver in the mini-stock division, who sustained a fatal injury.

The source said the crash occured on lap 11 of the 12-lap feature race. The vehicle Lefebvre was driving smashed into a concrete barrier just off of turn two of the quarter-mile dirt oval track.

Paramedics rushed to the vehicle. Police were also called and speedway officials stopped the evening's proceedings so that an investigation could begin right away.

The speedway source said Lefebvre was driving the car that belonged to Francis Blanchette, another mini-stock driver. The source indicated Blanchette was serving a short suspension for rough riding and that Lefebvre had agreed to drive the car this weekend.

OPP Const. Joel Doiron confirmed an accident took place, and was at the speedway, but had no details on the status of the driver.

Doiron said Ministry of Labour investigators were heading to the speedway as well.

In a media release the speedway confirmed a serious injury to Lefebvre.

"The Ontario Provincial Police have taken the track for investigation; the rest of the program will be run on July 6 before the start of the regular show on that evening," read the release.

Jesus Frank. Are intentionally being disingenuous. That has gotta be the dumbest statement I've ever seen. Why don't you ask the car owner that in person. I'm actually dumber for having read your post.

Are you people kidding. The driver and car owner were friends. Danny was filling in for Francis for the week to make sure his sponsors had their track time. Making stupid comments when you don't know what you are talking about makes you the assholes... not Godard !!

So Sad RIP Danny. Thoughts and prayers to his family n friends And Frank your comments make NO SENSE what so ever Why would someone screw with the safety of their own car Rough driving means Any driver committing unnecessary contact, harassment, or using any driving tactic that is considered dangerous by the flagman or track official will be deemed rough driving. This rule applies to hot laps, preliminary events, and features. Reprimands for rough driving are covered in the Rules of Procedures

Well said gilles! Danny was his friend frank! He most likely wanted to keep his points in racing and not having his car on the track would of put his game on hold, THEREFORE they as friends agreed on him driving.... I dont see anywhere is it your place to write something like this where your story makes no f***ing sense. It was a unfortunate bad luck that happened that could of happened to anyone anywhere!!!!! To Danny and his family we send you our love.

Condolences to the family. . Mr Godard, he has a valid point the guy could have tampered with the vehicle, or worse. Like the article reads, the owner of the car was known for that kind of recklessness. If so, the blood of this man is on his hands, and he belongs in jail, whether that offends you or not.

Where in the article does it state he was known for being reckless? he was serving a suspension for contact. You all need to get a clue and stop talking about something you have no idea about. RIP Danny

Wow the comments in the beginning are ridiculous! Frank you have no right to make an assumption like that ! I understand peoples opinion on Blanchette being suspended and all but there would be no reason for him to tamper his own car with a friend in it and the whole reason he wanted to have his car raced was to keep his points in game! Your assumption on what happened was random mean and uncalled for whether you'd be right or not! Certainly not something to post on this page and before the real story is even posted

I think you Andrew belong in a mental institution!

  • Frank
    June 22, 2014 - 23:08

Okay, so just a guess here, but if Blanchette was a hard driver, then he might have loosened a ball joint or some other type of important front end suspension part of the vehicle, causing it to break at an unexpected moment; therefore resulting in the crash. I am glad they are investigating the cause though, as I could be wrong.

My name is Frank Periard,an 84 year old driver of yesteryear[ before you were even born ] and did not ever write anything about Dany's unfortunate accident which I happen to witness. Mr Godard, before you start throwing all those uncalled for insulting remarks,I wish you would better investigate the source of the message.I used to be a fan of yours, but now I have changed my mind because of your uncalled for comments,it makes me wonder if you are trying to show your ignorance or your IQ?... To Dany's wife and family,I offer my most sincere condolences.May the GOOD LORD receive him with open arms and bless the family forever. Dany,I didn't know you, but you and your family will be in my prayers for a long long time. GOD bless you. p.s. Mr Godard, instead of your insults,You should spend more time praying for Dany.
