Peacefully at Glengarry Memorial Hospital on Sunday, July 20. Adolphus Piette of Alexandria; age 87 years. Beloved husband of the late Viola Piette (nee Dionne). Loving father of Donat Piette (Lise) of Ste. Justine de Newton, Jeannette Bellefeuille (Percy) of Alexandria, Robert Piette (Cindy) of LaSalle, Quebec, Paul Piette (Jeanne), Maurice Piette (Geatanne), Marcel Piette (Monique), Therese Piette (Leo Rochon) and Denise Piette all of Alexandria, Arthur Piette (Claudine) of Fassifem, Irene Piette (Gary Van de Light) of Alexandria and Normand Piette (Micheline) of Cornwall. Predeceased by one daughter Rita Ouellette (Gerald of Alexandria). Dear brother of Georges (Pauline) of Cornwall and Alice Labelle (late Rheal) of Cornwall. Tragically as the result of a motor vehicle accident in Alexandria, on Saturday, July 19. Christian (Chris) William Leach, formerly of Alexandria; age 21 years. Beloved son of William and Faye Leach. Cherished brother of Cheryl (Rick Hawkey), Erik and Brian (Tanya). Loving uncle of Joshua and Jaxon Hawkey and Serena Leach. Dear companion of Ambra Duval. Grandson of Ernest Leach of Green Valley and the late George and Annie Sabin of Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. Nephew of Kathy Leach (Paul) Bourque), Margaret Francellini (John) and Joanne MacKeigan (Bob). Best friend of James Oud of Kingston. Chris was a cherished friend to countless others. SOMMERS – Roxanne

Tragically on Saturday, July 19. Roxanne (Roxy) Jennifer Sommers; formerly of Lancaster; age 23 years. Beloved daughter of Charlene Sommers. Loving sister of Jason and Curtis Sommers, both at home. Cherished granddaughter of Eva and Reggie Meloche of Long Sault and Regina Sommers and the late Cornellius Sommers of Lancaster. Also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins. BINGLEY – Ellen

Mrs. Ellen Bingley peacefully at the Cornwall Community Hospital, McConnell Site, on Saturday, July 19, at the age of 87 years. Beloved wife of the late Irving Bingley. Loving mother of Pat Bingley (Lucie) and Brenda Wagar, both of Cornwall. Sadly missed by her 5 grandchildren Tasha, Christopher, and Timothy Bingley; and Derek and Carolyn Wagar. Predeceased by her parents Salomon and Lydia (Mulala) Porttila; brothers Tauno, Karlo, and Arvo Porttila, and her sister Bertha Desjardins. Rested at Wilson Funeral Home. The funeral was held in St. John’s Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, July 23. Interment followed in Woodlawn Cemetery, Cornwall.

HART – Roy

Suddenly at the Dundas Manor Nursing Home, Winchester, on Saturday, July 19. Roy Hart; formerly of Chesterville, age 89. Loving husband of Marion Hart (nee McConnell) for almost 66 years. Dear father of Brenda (Walter Conrad) of Carp and Lee (Angie) of Calgary. Dear father-in-law of Connie Hart, Chesterville. Roy will be fondly remembered by 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by a son Mark Hart. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. The funeral service was held at the Williamsburg United Church on Thursday, July 24. Interment followed at Maple Ridge Cemetery, Chesterville.

SHAVER – Brenda

At the Cornwall Community Hospital, McConnell Site, on Saturday, July 19. Brenda Lynn (Canough) Shaver of Wallrich avenue, age 51 years. Beloved wife of Bill “Foxy” Shaver for 33 years. Loving mother of Alison Shaver-Lauzon (Aubrey) of Cornwall and Christine Gardner (Darren) of Edmonton, Alberta. Cherished Granny of Trey, Ethan, Aiden, Silas, Ryan and Cole. Beloved daughter of the late Allen Canough and the late Elaine (Belmore) Canough. Dear sister of David Canough and Connie Canough (AJ) both of Edmonton, Alberta, and Cindy Paquette (Rene) of Gatineau. Predeceased by one brother, Brian Canough. The funeral was held on Thursday, July 24, for service in the memorial chapel of the funeral home of Lahaie and Sullivan, West Branch. Cremation followed.

Mr. Howard Smith of Cornwall at the Cornwall Community Hospital, McConnell site, on Friday, July 18; age 68 years. Beloved husband of Mary (Robertson) Smith. Dear father of Shawn Smith, Syracuse; Joanne Smith (Mike Arsenault), Cornwall; and Shane Smith (Karen) of Ottawa. He will be sadly missed by one granddaughter Caitlin Smith of Syracuse. Dear brother of Sylvia McRae (Dwayne) of Williamstown; Beverly Applejohn, of Ottawa; Sandra Buchanan of Moose Creek; Garry Smith (Linda); and Brian Smith both of Cornwall. Predeceased by his parents Clinton Henry and Julia Ann (Lauzon) Smith; and by two brothers Russell and Bobby Smith. Rested at Wilson Funeral Home. At the St. Joseph’s Continuing Care Centre on Thursday, July 17, 2008. Paul Emile Dugas of Cornwall; age 86 years. Beloved husband of the late Pauline (Lefebvre) Dugas. Dear father of Gilles Dugas (husband of Anne Bouchey) of Cornwall and Rene Dugas (husband of Sheryl Curtis) of Montreal, Quebec. Loving grandfather of Sebastien and Jeremie Dugas and step-grandfather of Paul Cain, Nicole Massia, Jamie Gillessie and Karijane Goodell and Jennifer Bouchey. Dear son of the late Fortunat Dugas and the late Melina (Quenneville) Dugas. Cremation. The funeral was held on on Saturday, July 26, for Funeral Mass in Precious Blood Church. RUDOLPH – Mary Patricia

Deceased at home, Wednesday, March 5, 2008. Pat was 83. She was the beloved wife of George Rudolph and dear mother of Bryan Rudolph (Lise) and John Rudolph (Brenda) both originally of Cornwall. Loving grandmother of Derek (Bryan), Ephriam and Kyra (John). Daughter of the late John and Margaret Caley. Dear sister of the late Jack Caley (Marge), the late Connie Silmser (Dick), Kay Askin (Bud) of Kingston, Margaret Doering of Hamilton and Anne Crook (Mike) of Long Sault. Her life is now held in our memories. Cremation. A graveside service was held on Saturday, July 26, in St. Lawrence Valley Cemetery, Long Sault.

MARKELL – Gwelda

Passed away at the Cornwall Community Hospital, McConnell Site on Wednesday, July 16, 2008, age 70 years. Beloved wife of 50 years to Keith Markell. Loved mother of Brian Markell of Long Sault, Ontario and Karen Kelly (Richard Blanchard) of Cornwall, Ontario. Loving grandmother of Derek and Kayla Markell. Dear daughter of Mildred (MacIntyre) Robertson of Maxville, Ontario and the late Gordie Robertson. Dear sister of Marvel MacLeod (Keith), Douglas (Grace), Bernard (Lois), Garnet (Gwen) and Gordon Robertson (Mavis). Sadly missed by Dylon and Dawsun Blanchard and many nieces and nephews. McDONELL – Mary

Mrs. Mary McDonell of Cornwall at the Cornwall Community Hospital, McConnell Site on Wednesday, July 16. Beloved wife of the late Duncan Bernard McDonell. Dear mother of Maureen Bradley (late Larry), Cornwall; Norma Deruchie (Ron), Cornwall; Ralph McDonell, Red Deer, Alberta; Sharon Goral (Terry), Metcalfe; and Pat McDonell (Hank) of Okotoks, Alberta. She will be sadly missed by her 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her parents Roderick an Annie (Gray) MacDonald; one daughter, Lois; two sons Bernie (Rosemary) and Allan (Cathy); two sisters, Jean McKinnon and Lillian Cameron; and by four brothers, Allan, Raymond, John and Archie MacDonald. Rested at Wilson Funeral Home. The Mass of the Resurrection with Commendation and farewell was celebrated in St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church, Apple Hill, on Friday, July 18. Rite of Committal followed in St. Anthony’s Parish Cemetery.

At the Cornwall Community Hospital, McConnell Site on Monday, July 14. Susan Patricia Baker; formerly of Cornwall; age 55 years. Beloved daughter of Dorothy (Brady) Baker and the late Timothy Baker. Dear sister of Frederick Baker (Carol) of Montreal, Quebec, Tim Baker (later Jeannine) and Ken Baker (Joanne Bernard) both of Cornwall. Also survived by her nieces and nephews. The funeral took place on Thursday, July 17, for Service in the Memorial Chapel of Lahaie & Sullivan Funeral Home. Interment was held at Notre Dame Cemetery.

MacDONALD – Ewen

Mr. Ewen MacDonald peacefully at his residence on Saturday, July 12, at the age of 79 years. Beloved son of the late Angus Duncan and Annie (Grant) MacDonald. Dear brother of the late Maureen Kennedy (late Hugh). Dear uncle to Sandra Cameron (Burns); favourite uncle of Karen MacDougall (Garry) both of Alexandria; and Robert Gordon Kennedy of Ottawa. Dear mother of Tim of Kelowna, British Columbia, and Edward (Denise) of New Brunswick. Loving grandmother of Christopher Sullivan of London, England and Shaun Sullivan of Grande-Prairie, Alberta. Dear daughter of the late Timothy Sullivan and the late Irene (Gavel) Sullivan. Dear sister of Genos Sullivan (Gladys) of Coberie, Nova Scotia, Colonel Sullivan of Hassette, Nova Scotia, Stella Saulnier of New Tusket, Nova Scotia, Olive Amero of Plympton, Nova Scotia and Beverly Bell (Robert) of Barton, Nova Scotia. Predeceased by one brother, Willard Sullivan and by three sisters, Hilda Sullivan, Dora Amero and Frances Sullivan. Suddenly in Assiniboia, Saskatchewan on Friday, July 11; age 43 years. James Earl Waldrif formerly of Chesterville. Beloved husband of Linda Munro-Waldrif. Dear step-father of Jason and Matthew Munro of Chesterville. Loved brother of Leo Waldrif, (Debbie) of Chase Mills, New York, Elaine Waldrif of British Columbia, Ronnie Waldrif, Linda Waldrif of Morrisburg, Sheila Waldrif of Brockville, Heather St. Louis (Gerry) of Long Sault, Bob Waldrif (Terri) of Cornwall, Lorraine Waldrif of Cornwall and Jo-Anne Lavigne (Andrew) of Martintown. Predeceased by three sons, Alex, William and Alfred Jodoin and two daughters, Rose McNamara and Theresa McKee. Loving grandmother of several grandchildren, great-children and great-great-grandchildren. Dear daughter of the late George Langlois and the late Melvina (Servais) Langlois. Beloved husband of the late Della Viola (Antoine) Bouchard. Loved father of Donna Elmer (Doug); Randy Bouchard (Jean), both of Ingleside; Penny Abrams (Dale), Cornwall; and Stan Bouchard (Tina) of Finch. Reginald Ernest Page (retired director of MIS Wyeth, past commanding officer of the Air Cadets, Squadron #379, past president of the Alexandria Lions Club and former member of the Alexandria Flying Club) of Alexandria; age 69 years. Beloved husband of Marilyn Page (nee Gelinas). Loving father of Geoffrey Page of Sherbrooke, Quebec, Karen Page (Denis Lessard) of Pte. Claire, Quebec, Sara Paquin (Eric) of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Deanna Lawson (Randy Murray) of Kempville and Frances Hagen of Kanata. Cherished grandfather of Jacob, Benjamin, Sean, Charles, Michel, Stephanie, Valerie, Alexander, Daniel, James and Gage. Dear son of the late Charles Page and the late Florence Swift.
