Mr. Roger Bedard, Owner of Bedard’s Auto Service, Cornwall, Ontario, passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2008; age 40 years, formerly of Newington, Ontario. Beloved husband of Joanne Smith-Bedard. Dear father of Ashley Bedard, Bethany Bedard and Kassandra Smith all of Newington and Blake Bedard of Glen Walter. Dear brother of Joseph Bedard (Monique) of Hawkesbury, Robert Bedard (Debbie) of Summerstown, Aime Bedard (Elaine), Marcel Bedard (Donna), Denis Bedard (Rita), Jacques Bedard (Rita) all of Cornwall, Rene Bedard (Debbie) of Crysler, Shirley (Doug Labrosse) of Nova Scotia, Donalda (Yvon Menard) of Green Valley and Marianne Bedard. Dear son of the late Joseph Aime Bedard and the late Irene Montroy. Rested at Boulerice Funeral Home Ltd. Funeral took place on Wednesday, June 4 for Mass of Christian Burial in Precious Blood Church Glen Walter. Cremation in South Branch crematorium.

Peacefully surrounded by her loving family at the Glengarry Memorial Hospital, Alexandria, on Friday, May 30, 2008. Marguerite Viau-Lajoie of Alexandria; age 90 years. Beloved wife of the late Edgar Lajoie. Cherished mother of Claude Lajoie (Anita) of Alexandria. Fernande Hebert (Richard) of Montreal, Rémi Lajoie (Carole) of Alexandria, Serge Lajoie (Mariette) of Montreal, Diane Lajoie, Guy Lajoie and Luc Lajoie (Debbie) all of Alexandria. She is survived by 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, her sisters, Cécile Ménard (late Édouard), Lucile Campeau (late Rémi) and Pauline Quesnel (Guy) all of Alexandria, her brother, Gérard Viau (Thérèse) of Lancaster as well as many nieces and nephews. Dear sister-in-law of Mrs. Thérèse Viau of Embrun. Predeceased by her parents, the late Théodule Viau and the late Aldina Léger, one sister, Alma Campeau and three brothers, Eldege, Henri and Aimé Viau. Rested at Munro & Morris Funeral Homes Ltd. A Mass of Christian Burial took place at Église Sacré-Coeur on Monday, June 2. Interment, Ste. Marie de l’Assomption Parish Cemetery, Green Valley.

GAREAU – Aurele

Passed away at the Ottawa Hospital, Civic Campus on Friday, May 30, 2008. Aurele Gareau of Lancaster; age 74 years. Dear companion of Alice Thibert. Dear brother of Jean-Guy Gareau (Gladys) of Cornwall, Mario Gareau (Patsy) of Lancaster, Huguette Desautels of Cornwall, Roddy Gareau (late Mary) and Sylvio Gareau (Norma) both of Cornwall and Rene Gareau (Doris) of Belleville. Predeceased by his parents, Ozee Gareau and Irene Bourbonnais as well as one brother, Alban Gareau. Survived by many nieces and nephews. Rested at Munro & Morris Funeral Homes Ltd. Funeral took place at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Lancaster on Tuesday, June 3, 2008. Interment, St. Joseph’s Parish Cemetery.

OSTLER – Major the Reverend Gary CD2

Passed away at the Ottawa Hospital, Civic Campus on Thursday, May 29, 2008, age 62 years. Dear son of the late Allen Ostler and the late Frances Gaudet. Beloved brother of Gail Lee (John) of Calgary, Alberta, John Ostler (Teri) of Pickering, Ontario and Reverend David Ostler of Arizona. Sadly missed by his nieces and nephews, Tim and Kerry Anne Lee, Kevin, Andrew and Cheryl Ostler. Rested at the Wilson Funeral Home, Cornwall. The Mass of the Resurrection with Commendation and Farewell was celebrated at St. Columban’s Roman Catholic Church on June 1. His Excellency the Most Reverend Paul-André Durocher, D.D. presided. Rite of Committal followed in St. Columban’s Parish Cemetery, Cornwall.

BESNER-SAMSON – Rita M. (Retired C.A.S. Employee). At the Cornwall Community Hospital on Wednesday, May 28, 2008. She was 73. Daughter of the late Elie Besner and Aline Boisvenue. Loving companion of the late Howard Trimble. Dear sister of Hilaire Besner (Irene), Auger Besner (late Terry), and Laura Lapointe (Raymond) all of Cornwall, Albert Besner (late Mary) of La Prairie, Quebec, Gerard Besner (late Leona) of Cambridge and Yvonne Bailey (Bill) of Sarasota. Predeceased by 2 sisters Lorraine (late Reynald Gratton), Jeanne Martel (late Germain) and her former husband Roger Samson. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral took place on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at Blessed Sacrament Church followed by Rite of Committal at Notre Dame Cemetery.

GUTTENTAG – Istvan (Steve)

Passed away at the Ottawa Hospital (General Campus) on Wednesday, May 28, 2008. He was 75. He leaves his loving wife of almost 44 years, Rose (Pecore) Guttentag. Steve was born in Budapest, Hungary and came to Canada in 1956. He was the only son of Moar and Maria (Tinger) Guttentag (deceased). Steve was a commercial artist employed by Norvic Signs and at last Farm Boy until his retirement. Funeral Liturgy, May 31. Rite of Commital followed at St. Lawrence Valley Cemetery, Long Sault.

LACROIX – Laurier

Passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at the Cornwall Community Hospital, McConnell site, aged 87 years. Mr. Laurier Lacroix, formerly of Cornwall. Beloved husband of Laurette (Morin) Lacroix. Dear father of Andre Lacroix, Raymond Lacroix (Jeannine Picard), Paul-Emile Lacroix (Pamela Summers), Daniel Lacroix (Joanne Blanche), Lorraine Gauthier (Lucien), all of Cornwall and Madeleine Hebert (Michel) of Gatineau, Quebec. Dear brother of Marcel Lacroix (Colette) of Ottawa and Suzanne Charbonneau of Orleans. Also survived by 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Dear son of the late Joseph Lacroix and the late Edwilda Lafleur. Predeceased by two brothers, Leopold and Emmanuel Lacroix and one sister, Mrs. Germaine Levesque. Rested at the Boulerice Funeral Home Ltd. Funeral services held May 31 for mass of Christian Burial in St. Felix-de-Valois Church. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery, Cornwall.

Passed away at his residence on Tuesday, May 27, 2008. Richard Micael Branchaud, formerly of Ottawa; age 48 years. Husband by a previous marriage of Elaine (Nelson) St. Louis. Dear father of Misty Bilmer (Collin) of Long Sault, Mathew Branchaud and Katie Branchaud, both of Cornwall. Loving grandfather of Tyson, Carson, Nicole, Emily and Spencer. Dear son of Anita (Morin) Branchaud of Cornwall and the late Albert Branchaud. Dear brother of Diane Hebert (Marcel) and Sandra Denis (Mitch), both of Cornwall, John Branchaud of Ottawa and Bert Branchaud (Darlene) of St. Thomas. He will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Rested at Lahaie & Sullivan Cornwall Funeral Homes, West Branch. Funeral held Friday, May 30 for Mass of Christian Burial in St. Peter’s Church. Interment, Notre Dame Cemetery.

McDOUGALL – Velma Agnes

Passed away at the Cornwall Community Hospital, McConnell site on Tuesday, May 27, 2008 in her 91st year. Beloved wife of the late Morris McDougall. Loving mother of Margo Schwerdtfeger (Lyle), Ingleside; Garry McDougall (Marlene), Cornwall; Glenn McDougall (Florence), Toronto; and Mark McDougall (Johanne), Cornwall. Sadly missed by her 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Loved daughter of the late Joseph and Mae (Jesmer) Fobert. Dear sister of Rita Maloney of St. Catharines. Predeceased by her brothers Clarence, Gordon, Emerson and Lloyd Fobert, and her sister, Hazel Brand. Rested at Wilson Funeral Home. The Mass of the Resurrection with Commendation and Farewell May 30 at St. Columban’s Catholic Church. Rite of Committal at a later date in St. Columban’s Parish Cemetery.

KEARNS – James Francis

Mr. Francis Kearns at St. Joseph’s Continuing Care Centre on Monday, May 26, at the age of 84 years; Retired Domtar employee. Beloved husband of 46 years to Rita (Grant) Kearns. Loved father of Janice Prieur (Russell), and Mary Frances Lefave (Michael). Sadly missed by his grandchildren Bobby Wilkinson (Anna), Amanda Wilkinson (Randall), Shawn and Sara Prieur; as well as his great grandchildren Draylon Wilkinson and Isabella Prieur. Predeceased by his parents Gerry and Margaret (McMahon) Kearns, as well as his step-mother the former Cassie McElheran; and two sisters at infancy Blanche and Irene. Rested at the Wilson Funeral Home. The Mass of the Resurrection with Commendation and Farewell was celebrated in St. Columban’s Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, May 29. Rite of Committal followed in St. Lawrence Valley Cemetery, Long Sault.
