Brock Frost is looking to bring a new approach to how entrepreneurs do business in Cornwalll – in short, he is looking for a resurrection of fresh ideas. And he’s already got the church.
Frost, a Cornwall native, is days away from the grand opening of The Church on Sydney, a place where he hopes freelancers, entrepreneurs and independents can congregate to find the resources and space they need to grow their ideas.
The concept is simple – local business people who don’t have the resources or desire to commit to leasing space, or working from home, can pay for access to a business environment he is trying to foster at what was the former Baptist Church and Union Hall at 130 Sydney Street.
“We have the capabilities and functionalities of an office space,” Frost said in an interview. “This is the kind of space for everyone to come and grow their ideas together.”
The Church on Sydney will provide board room space, storage and Wi-Fi, “but in a new-age, hip social environment,” said Frost, who owns the business.
These types of business-friendly collaborative office spaces have become a staple in bigger centres like Ottawa and Montreal , but are only now making their way into smaller communities like Cornwall.
“I go to the coffee shop every day and see people doing their work, like me,” said Frost, who added, “No one wants to work from home. It’s boring.”
Patrons of The Church on Sydney will be charged for a variety of different access options, from unlimited visits, to drop-ins.
Frost also plans to rent out the facility for evening banquets and receptions. The Church on Sydney will have its grand opening March 15. A soft opening is scheduled for Monday.
