The Canada Border Services Agency has confirmed that it has conducted an investigation into illegal workers at a local business in Cornwall.
Officers were seen entering Moon Thai & Japanese restaurant on Second Street East in downtown Cornwall on April 3.
CBSA has confirmed an individual has been arrested and is facing charges under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) for working without authorization.
The CBSA enforces the IRPA, and lays charges when there is sufficient evidence to support convictions for deliberate or willful violations of the IRPA. Those found to be working in Canada without proper authorization are in violation of the IRPA and may be prosecuted and issued a removal order.
A patrol car from the CBSA was seen parked directly outside, with two officers watching the restaurant for some time. Officers surrounded the building as a team went inside, and boxes were carried down from the space. Present were CBSA officers, a representative from the RCMP, as well as a representative from Immigration.
