New show opens at Upper Canada Playhouse
The real-live husband and wife acting team of Melanie Janzen and Jamie Williams now starring in the Upper Canada Playhouse’s production of Norm Foster’s Here on the Flight Path.

The Upper Canada Playhouse opened its second show of the season, the charming and funny Here on the Flight Path, by Norm Foster, on Saturday.

Starring real-life husband and wife, Jamie Williams and Melanie Janzen, and this comedy-with-heart, set on two balconies of a downtown apartment building, is a great showcase for both these talented performers whose on stage chemistry is a pleasure to watch.

John Cummings, played with honesty and warmth by Williams, is a recently divorced columnist and aspiring novelist who gets distracted each time a new women moves into the apartment next door.

In multiple roles, Janzen shows her great acting range as Faye the high-price escort who wants more out of live, Angel the wide-eyed aspiring singer from out west, and Gwen, a recently separated free-spirit.

As always with Foster’s plays, the story, told with humour, is also infused with thought provoking moments, realism and well developed characters.

Director, Walter Learning, who has also in the past performed on the Playhouse stage, skillfully moves the pace along, while the minimalist but effective set by Sean Free plays a major role.

Here on the Flight Path runs from July 5 to July 29, with shows Tuesday through Saturday at 8PM and Wednesday, Saturdays and Sundays at 2PM.

Coming up this season…Wife Begins at Forty (August 2 – 26) is the hilarious farce about a couple whose marriage is on the rocks, and their attempt to re-kindle the flame.

A Nice Family Gathering (September 6 – 30), gets turned up-side-down when Dad’s ghost joins the reunion with a special mission for his son who’s the only one to see him.

Not to be missed, Blue Suede Shoes (October 10 to 21) is a tribute to Elvis Presley, the King of Rock ‘N Roll.

The Playhouse ends its season with their holiday show, Everything I Always Loved About Christmas (November 22 to December 16), a magical, musical holiday story of homecoming.
