New OPP commander in Long Sault

CORNWALL, Ontario – There’s a new sheriff in town – well, not really a sheriff, but you get the picture.

The OPP has announced the new commander of its SD and G OPP detachment will be Insp. Brendan (BJ) MacDonald.

MacDonald’s policing resume includes 25 years as a police officer, with stops in Northern Ontario, as well as experience in criminal investigations, traffic enforcement and human resources.

His most recent posting was as the staff sergeant, and detachment manager of with the SD and G OPP.

MacDonald, a native of the area, has already begun his new job.

“This is a great day,” said OPP Chief Superintendent Gary Couture. “As Inspector MacDonald joins the ranks of the commissioned officers within the OPP, he will continue to support the needs of his community and the SDG Police Services Boards. I have no doubt he will serve the community well. “

Mayor of North Stormont and chair of the police services board, Dennis Fife, fully supports the decision.

“I am very pleased that Inspector MacDonald was the successful applicant in this process. I’ve worked with BJ for many years and I know great things are going to happen,” he said.
