CORNWALL, Ontario – One of Canada’s most popular folk rock bands is coming back to Cornwall. The critically-acclaimed Great Big Sea, will be taking the stage at the Civic Complex on Fri., Nov. 29.
“Cornwall will be rolling out the red carpet,” said facilities rental coordinator Janice Robinson. “This is the biggest show in the past few years by far.”
In Nov., 2004, Great Big Sea rocked the Seaway City and brought in a large crowd. This year, Robinson is expecting the same energy. In a few hours of announcing the event, Robinson received over 20 phone calls.
Great Big Sea will be in Cornwall as part of their 20-year anniversary cross-Canada tour, promoting the band’s greatest hits and box set, XX. After two decades, GBS: Alan Doyle, Sean McCann and Bob Hallett have sold multiple platinum albums, and several others that went gold. The band also includes supporting members Murray Foster and Kris MacFarlane.
“It’s been a long time since they’ve been here, so I think it will be very well received,” she said.
Robinson said that if ticket sales go very well, the promoters (Live Nation Entertainment) will “put Cornwall on the radar” and place the city in a better position to attract bigger shows.
The Civic Complex has seating for 2,800 people at the Great Big Sea show. 806 will have the luxury of floor seats, for an additional price. All prices stated in the article include taxes and service charges. Unless tickets are ordered by phone, then a .50 cent charge per ticket applies.
“The way our arena is set up, it’s so up close and personal,” said Robinson. “No matter where you sit, you can see the band and they can connect with the audience.”
Tickets for the show go on sale on Sat., Sept. 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Civic Complex box office, either in person or by phone at (613) 938-9400.
