Cornwall kicked off Canada’s 150th celebration year in style on Sunday, January 1, with a fun filled winter festivities in Lamoureux Park.

Crowds congregated around the splash pad for a variety of fun, entertainment, and refreshments this afternoon. Snowshoeing, snow painting, tobogganing, and other family friendly activities were available for kids of all ages to take part in, including a horse drawn sleigh ride.

I haven’t seen this many people in the park in the winter time since I’ve been in Canada,” said Mayor Leslie O’Shaughnessy. “I hope that this is something that continues every winter from now on.”

City organizers are hoping to keep the good times rolling throughout the rest of winter, with smaller activities planned for nearly every weekend, along with other celebrations throughout the year to mark Canada’s big birthday celebration.
