MARTINTOWN, Ontario – There were slow cookers as far as the eye could see in Martintown on Saturday at the Chili Cookoff fundraiser.

There were 17 different chilis available for tasting in Martintown’s Community Centre on Jan. 28 and for just $10 visitors could try them all.

All of the money raised will be going to Phase 2 of the new park in Martintown.

Phase 2 will see the addition of some play structures geared towards older kids in the community.

The new park is where the old Martintown Community Centre used to be.

This is the second year the chili fundraiser has happened.

Last year more than 100 people packed into the Community Centre to try the chili and organisers were expecting an even bigger turnout this year.

Other fundraisers have been held throughout the year in support of Phase 2 for the park including Turkey Bingo Nights, a curling bonspiel and a pub crawl.

The Cornwall Comedy Festival also holds an event in Martintown during the festival and all proceeds from that event go towards the park.

“The community has been really great in banding together for this new park,” said Jason Flaro, one of the organisers.
