CORNWALL, Ontario – The Agapé Centre is challenging the public to donate one bag to help them help the community throughout the summer.
Summer is the most challenging time for the Agapé Centre as they receive the least amount of donations, but still have to meet the same demand for their services.
The idea is to donate one bag of groceries to the Agapé Centre between now and the end of August. Participants are encouraged to challenge five of their friends to also take up the One Bage Challenge.
Agapé Centre Executive Director Diane Plourde gaveSeaway News a few quick facts about the centre and the challenge.
- The Agapé Centre’s food bank serves about 25 families a day.
- Each family can use the food bank once a month.
- That means roughly 600 individuals use the Agapé Centre food bank per month.
- The food items most in demand at the food bank are peanut butter, canned meats, pasta and pasta sauce.
- The Agapé Centre hopes to collect 500 bags of food donations.
- Everyone who makes a donation of $20 or more will get a tax receipt.
“Hunger doesn’t take a break in summer,” explained Plourde.
Cornwall Councillor and Agapé Centre Board Member Maurice Dupelle was on hand to help kick off the campaign. he was representing the Mayor as Acting Mayor for the month of July.
“We hope to go way over the goal that’s been set and cret an abundance of food for the food bank,” he said.
Dupelle himself took up the challenge and donated his bag to the Agapé Centre. He also challenged fellow councillors Carilyne Hébert, Justin Towndale, Andre Rivette and David Murphy,
