CORNWALL, Ontario – The City of Cornwall, the Cornwall Chamber of Commerce and the Nav Centre all welcomed the High Commissioner from South Africa to the city on Thursday, Aug. 3.

High Commissioner Sibongiseni Dlamini-Mntambo was invited to a reception organized by the Chamber of Commerce for the guests of their trip to South Africa and Dubai next month.

The High Commissioner first stopped by City Hall to sign the city’s Golden Book. She was greeted by Councillor Carilyne Hébert, who is serving as Cornwall’s Acting Mayor for the month of August.

High Commissioner Dlamini-Mntambo remarked to Acting Mayor Hébert that Cornwall was a beautiful city and very centrally located.

The reception, held at the Nav Centre, gave High Commissioner Dlamini-Mntambo the opportunity to speak to some of the citizens of Cornwall and to see what the Nav Centre had to offer.

After arriving, the High Commissioner was given a tour of the Nav Centre’s facilities, with particular emphasis on the centre’s air traffic control simulator.

High Commissioner Dlamini-Mntambo asked Nav Centre staff several questions in regards to the training and certifications that the Nav Centre could offer international students training to become air traffic controllers.

The Chamber’s trip to South Africa is running from Sept. 11 to Sept. 25 and there are currently 39 people signed up.

The Chamber of Commerce organizes these trips through a program provided to all chambers in Ontario from the Ontario Chamber of Commerce.
