CORNWALL, Ontario – The Big Brothers/ Big Sisters of Cornwall held their fourth annual Sock Sale this past weekend.

“Opening day was crazy,” said BBBS Fundraising Coordinator Jillian Hendry.

She explained that on the first day of the sale this year, the auditorium at the Agora Centre was packed with people lined up around their setup tables eager to buy socks.

The socks came in all shapes and colours an were $0.50 a piece. Scotiabank also provided volunteers to help with the sale and matched the funds raised. In all there were around 15 volunteers helping with the sale.

“One woman said she stocks up on socks for the entire year and won’t buy socks anywhere but here,” said Hendry.

The money raised goes to help the backlog of kids waiting to be matched with their Big Brother or Big Sister. The money raised also supports their seven mentoring programs which includes Go Girls, a mentoring program that teaches young girls healthy eating and lifestyle habits.
