This year’s Terry Fox Run was a tremendous success

CORNWALL, Ontario – Hundreds of walkers, runners, and cyclists made their way through the scenic waterfront trail at Cornwall’s 36th annual Terry Fox Run this Sunday, Sept. 17.

Terry Fox began the Marathon of Hope in St. John’s Newfoundland in April 1980. Having run 143 days and 5,373 kilometres, Terry’s run ended just outside Thunder Bay.

Community Run Organizer, Josée Sauvé says that the run continues to generate a great deal of community support.

“Most people are running for someone they’ve lost to cancer,” said Sauvé. In addition to those running for a loved one, Sauvé says that a handful of cancer survivors were also participating in the run.

“There’s a lot of inspiration during the run because almost everyone has been touched by cancer in some way or another,” said Sauvé.

In her 12th and final year as organizer, Sauvé will be passing the torch on to Chris Nicholls, son of original run organizer, Bob Nicholls.

This year, Sauvé says that she was especially impressed by nine-year-old Oarne Crawford who raised $795.

“His goal was to raise over $400, which he clearly surpassed,” said Sauvé. “We’re very grateful to have kids taking such an interest.”
