CORNWALL, Ontario – Students of Immaculate Conception Catholic School’s Grade 6 class got real experience in helping the less fortunate.

On Friday, Nov. 17, the students were at the Agapè Centre to volunteer and help make food for the soup kitchen.

The students had raised $295 dollars to fund the soup kitchen at the Agapè Centre for one day. They raised the money on Monday, Nov. 13 during their Pajama Day at school. Students had to pay $2 each to participate in Pajama Day.

The endeavour was done to mark World Poverty Day.

In all, 13 students were at the Agapè Centre on Friday volunteering. They were doing things like moving food into the food bank and chopping up fresh vegetables for the soup kitchen.

“We learned that we shouldn’t waste food and we should give it to the poor,” said one student.

One of their teachers Kim Adams said that since the students had this experience, many of them had said that they want to volunteer at the Agapè Centre during high school as a part of their volunteer hours.
