The I Am Alive Cat and Dog Rescue held it’s monthly fundraiser on Saturday, Dec. 9, of 2017 at the Pet Valu on Second St. East, to help cats and dogs that are in need throughout the Cornwall area.

Kathleen Dixon, with the help of the Pet Valu, organized the fundraiser to help cats and dogs that have been abandoned or rescued by holding the bake sale, craft sale, nail clipping for pets  and adoption weekend with all proceeds going to the I Am Alive Cat and Dog Rescue.

Julie Berniquer with the Pet Valu said, “We have been hosting the fundraiser once a month for the past three years now.”

Pet Valu stores try to help all the animals they can by partnering with local rescues, charities and shelters like the I Am Alive Rescue.

“Ninety five percent of our cats were destined to be euthanized due to overflow at shelters, so as a charity we take in those cats and dogs,” said Dixon.

In a month the I Am Alive Rescue gets approximately twenty cats to their forever home with over two hundred still in foster homes.

The rescue has helped almost five hundred cats in 2017 alone, while some are still up for adoption, many have found caring homes.

The I Am Alive Rescue has been aiding pets in Brockville and Cornwall since 2011 and has been able do so through donations that fundraisers like the one held this Saturday help raise.

“Our rescue is totally run on donations, we are not government funded so the adoption fees cover the fixing, the vaccinating, and any medications that the animals might need,” explained Dixon.

The rescue hopes that Saturday’s bake sale and craft sale will raise a couple hundred dollars to aid the pets, however there is always a need of more.

“The biggest challenge we have, other than feeding the animals, is not being able to say yes to all of them. There are just so many animals in need and we can’t service them all,” said Dixon.

If you would like to aid the rescue by making a donation or adopting a pet the Pet Valu on Second St. East collects donations for the rescue and the rescue can be contacted through their Facebook page, I Am Alive Cat and Dog Rescue.
