CORNWALL, Ontario – Alex Tourangeau, a Cornwall survivor of childhood cancer, served as an Ambassador for the Ottawa Senators Foundation at 24h Tremblant
24h Tremblant is a weekend long fundraiser and sporting event that supports three charities dedicated to finding a cure fore and supporting those with cancer. The three charities supported by 24h Tremblant this year were the Tremblant Foundation, the Ottawa Senators Foundation and the Charles Bruneau Foundation.
The event itself is a 24hr relay race. Teams of six to 12 individuals race from Saturday to Sunday on a route on the Mount Tremblant ski resort. Pariticipants can ski, walk or run.
There were around 3, 300 participants with about 33, 000 people attending according to Tourangeau, which he said was announced as a record breaking level of attendance by the events organizers.
Tourangeau was one of 9 child ambassadors at the event and said he did his job to the fullest and cheered on the participants.
“Its important to raise awareness for childhood cancer and to encourage people to donate,” he said.
In total, the weekend raised $3.9 million for the three charities. Some of the money will go to programs like Camp Quality, a one-week summer camp for kids who have cancer at no cost to the families. Tourangeau has gone to camp quality for the past four years.
Tourangeau said that 24h Tremblant was an exciting weekend which included live music that played throughout the night. One of the acts that took the stage at Tremblant was Simple Plan, who were capping of their world tour with a performance at the charity event.
Tourangeau hopes to one day attend 24h Tremblant as a participant.
