CORNWALL and UNITED COUNTIES of SD&G, Ontario – Environment Canada is warning that freezing rain and snow can be expected for Cornwall and the surrounding region for New Year’s Eve.

“Snow or freezing rain will begin this evening and change to freezing rain later this evening or overnight,” the Environment Canada Weather Warning reads. “An extended period of freezing rain is likely overnight before changing to rain and ending early Tuesday. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Slow down driving in slippery conditions. Watch for taillights ahead and maintain a safe following distance.”

The freezing rain is forecasted to begin at around 8 p.m. on New Year’s Eve before turning into rain early New Year’s Day.

Temperatures will remain around zero.
