Icey drive home expected Wednesday afternoon

CORNWALL and UNITED COUNTIES of SD&G, Ontario – Environment Canada has issued a weather advisory for Cornwall and the surrounding region for Wednesday, Feb. 6.

“Snow and ice pellets have begun to affect the area as expected,” the statement from Environment Canada reads. “There is also the risk of freezing drizzle this afternoon. Snow and ice pellet accumulations of 2 to 4 cm are expected before the precipitation changes to freezing drizzle this evening or overnight.”

Environment Canada expects the freezing drizzle to continue for most of Thursday.

As a precaution, St. Lawrence College has cancelled all classes and activities after 4 p.m. on all four of its campuses in Cornwall, Brockville and Kingston.

The St. Lawrence River Institute has also postponed its Science & Nature on Tap event scheduled for Wednesday night.

The Weather Network predicts that ice pellets should start falling in Cornwall at around 3 p.m. and are expected to continue until 6 a.m. Thursday.
