Police seize cannabis from two Akwesasne businesses

AKWESASNE – The Akwesasne Mohawk Police executed search warrants on two Cornwall Island businesses at approximately 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 5.

Police seized unknown quantities of dried cannabis bud, cannabis concentrates commonly known as shatter, cannabis accessories, currency from AK420 Dispensary and Wild Flower Cannabis.

It has been confirmed that the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne (MCA) has not issued AK420 Dispensary or Wild Flower Cannabis an interim cannabis license. Criminal charges from the investigation are pending and expected to be formally filed at the Cornwall Provincial Court some time this week.

“Although cannabis was legalized for possession on Oct. 17, 2018, applicable legislation defines processes for the authorization for dispensaries,” said Chief of Police Shawn Dulude.

The investigation is currently ongoing and may involve additional individuals being charged under the Cannabis Act.
