CORNWALL, Ontario – Cornwall native boxer Tony “Lighting” Luis was fighting in his home town on Saturday, Feb. 23.

Luis main evented a stacked card of five bouts at the Cornwall Civic Complex.

In his match, Luis took on Juan Jose Martinez, downing the Mexican born boxer in the eighth round in a Technical Knockout (TKO) decision from the referee.

The referee ended the match after he felt Martinez was not able to continue.

Luis knocked Martinez to the mat earlier in the match and scored several jobs to the head throughout the bout. Both men were bloodied by the end of the fight with Luis bleeding from the nose and Martinez bleeding from above his right eye.

Luis’ last bout in Cornwall was in Oct. 2017 where he defeated Jovanni Straffon in defense of his NABA Lightweight Title.
