CORNWALL & UNITED COUNTIES, Ontario – Spring and the March Break are right around the corner, and there are plenty of local opportunities for your family to get out to and enjoy.

From March 11 to 15, families can engage in fun indoor and outdoor activities in the city of Cornwall and SDG.

CORNWALL

The City is reminding residents that they can utilize outdoor rinks and public skating at the Benson Centre, swimming at the Aquatic Centre, skiing at Big Ben Ski Centre and trail opportunities through Guindon Park.

A number of activities have been announced that families can take part in through a registration process, including the following:

On Tuesday, March 12, children ages 5 to 7 can engage in a NERF Gun Battle at the Benson Centre Field House from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. for $5. Children ages 8 to 12 can engage in a separate battle right after from 10:30 a.m. to 11:20 a.m. Each child is required to bring their own eye protection and nerf gun while nerf bullets can be purchased.

On Wednesday, March 13, children ages 5 to 12 can enjoy creating St. Patrick’s Day arts and crafts, playing games and celebrating everything Irish. The cost is $10 per person and participants are reminded to wear green.

Children ages 7 to 12 can play Youth Pick Up Soccer from 10:30 a.m. to 11:25 a.m. on Thursday, March 14 for $5. Participants are asked to bring their own shin pads and indoor shoes.

An African Drumming Circle with Jody of The Rythym Room will be open to children ages 4 to 8 on Thursday, March 14 from 1:15 p.m. to 2 p.m. for a cost of $7.50. Children ages 9 to 14 can also participate from 2:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. for $10.

The Boys and Girls Club of Cornwall is offering two adventure camps for youth, spanning March 11 to 15 from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. each day. For $175 per member, children can choose to take part in a Spy Kids choose your adventure camp, involving games, crafts and sports, or a Super Sports camp, in which children will engage in a variety of sporting events, and are asked to bring skates and helmets. Lunch and snacks will be provided.

Chess camps and tournaments, as well as Lego Mega Builders opportunities will be held daily throughout the week at the Cornwall Public Library. Each day will offer a unique event, with presentations from Captain Catalyst, Magician Chris Pilsworth and local author Troy Kent throughout the week, as well as a special movie screening, a build your own boat race, as well as a crystal creation workshop.

Cornwall Tourism has outlined a few events in their calendar during the week, including Dilemmas with Dinner, a community Vagabond Theatre production at St. John’s Presbyterian Church with tickets priced at $20.

March Break at OPG is set to host events from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day throughout the week, including learning about bugs, wildlife, fish, endangered species and S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, engineering, art and math).

Seedy Saturday, a networking event where residents can exchange and acquire seeds, gardening tips and tricks returns Saturday, March 16 at the Benson Centre.

UNITED COUNTIES

Countryside Adventures, an outdoor adventure trail in Moose Creek, announced it will be open each day during the March Break, weather permitting. Skate rentals are available on site, and a food truck with popular winter snacks like maple taffy will be open as well.

Each SDG Library branch will be offering special services for the whole family throughout the week, from teen tech events and book discussions, to knitting, yarn crafts and Swedish Weaving activities.

“There’s pretty significant programming going on and every branch has something unique going on,” said Nick Seguin, United Counties Tourism Coordinator.

Friends of the Sanctuary will be hosting a variety of events at the Upper Canada Migratory Bird Sanctuary from March 9 to 17 from noon to 4 p.m., spanning ski and snowshoe rentals, a photo scavenger hunt to a wildlife photography workshop.
