CORNWALL, Ontario – According to the Cornwall Police Service (CPS) there was a 6.5 per cent increase in traffic collisions in Cornwall in 2018 over the previous year.

There were 1,373 collisions during 2018 and 1,289 in 2017. Injuries resulting from those collisions was down however, with 2018 having 334 injuries as a result of a collision compared to 359 the previous year.

Most of these accidents occurred in clear weather conditions, 1,119 and most were also single vehicle collisions or collisions with parked, unoccupied vehicles.

The most popular intersection in which to have an accident in 2018 was the McConnell Ave. and Second St. intersection with 11.

There were 12 incidents ruled to be the result of drugs or alcohol and 18 accidents involving pedestrians.

No one died in a vehicle collision in Cornwall in 2018.
