A pleasant surprise from Rick Shaver of Cornwall Seaway News checking in on our Let the Blue Shine Through Campaign Chair Kalem Payment.

CORNWALL, Ontario – Rachel’s Kids has launched a new campaign with the help of a young campaign chair.

For the month of April, Rachel’s Kids wants to light the community with blue with their Let your Blue Shine Through campaign for Autism Awareness month.

Kalem Payment has committed to chair the campaign. Kalem is 13-years-old and was diagnosed with moderate to severe autism at the age of three.

“We have known Kalem from a very young age and have seen how determination and perseverance can have such a positive outcome for someone on the autism spectrum” said Kim Lauzon, Rachel’s Kids Executive Director.  “When we decided to launch this very special initiative, we could not have imagined a better person to represent Rachel’s Kids.  He lights up a room with his outgoing personality, his vibrant laugh and his kind heart.”

The goal of the campaign is to raise awareness about autism during the month of April and to raise funds for Rachel’s Kids House of Hope.

The House of Hope provides resources to local families who have a child with special needs.

In support of this initiative, Rachel’s Kids is selling blue autism t-shirts for $15, blue porch lights for $7 and handcrafted autism bracelets for $25.

Merchandise is available at at Rachel’s Kids at 850 Boundary Rd. or by calling 613-933-3946.

Money will be used to buy new equipment for the House of Hope. Lauzon explained that the House of Hope is constantly bringing in new equipment and toys because each child interacts with equipment differently.

“If you see Kalem out in the community, make sure to say hi, shake his hand, give him a high five or maybe a great big hug. He loves those.” Rachel’s Kids stated in a press release.
