CORNWALL, Ontario – Community members excitedly cut the ribbon to the new Canadian Cancer Society office on Friday, March 22, which is now located in Le Village at 14 Montreal Rd.

“We are really proud to join all the other businesses and community organizations, and become part of the Le Village family here,” said Allison St-Jean, Community Fundraising Specialist.

The Canadian Cancer Society office was previously located at 113 Second St. E.

“It is really important for us to ensure that our services, as a community organization, are accessible to all the population throughout SDG and Prescott-Russel. I think our new office presents that opportunity to the community. Everything is wheelchair accessible…that has been done by Dr. Debuc for this office, so we are very grateful to have that. And of course, to have our accent yellow colours makes it feel bright and joyful (in the office).”

Long-time volunteer and cancer survivor Bernice Patterson, who actively assists at the Canadian Cancer Society Wig Salon in the Cornwall Care Centre on Second St. E, feels that the new office is fabulous. Yellow walls adorn the open entrance seating area, offices and volunteer space.

“I’m really happy with the way it turned out…we are happy to have them in Le Village,” said Dr. Michel Debuc. “We will be able to continue to work together and make this a better place.”

Mayor Bernadette Clement thanked Dr. Debuc for supporting an agency which is personally important to her, as her father is a two-time cancer survivor.

“When a space is warm and welcoming and up to date, we just feel better when we come in,” said Mayor Clement. “So, people come here and feel like this is a great place to be to receive services and do business…I’m also happy to see this in Le Village. It’s always great to have activity here.”

The Canadian Cancer Society is set to soon launch its 2019 Daffodil Campaign in April.
