CORNWALL, Ontario – For 14 years, Ryan Herman and his family have been organizing Ryan’s Bonspiel in support of the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB).

Held this year on March 23 at the Cornwall Curling Club, 18 teams participated including one visually impaired team from the Canadian Council for the Bling (CCB).

Ryan, 16, has been visually impaired by being blind in his left eye since he was eight months old, but is happy to participate in this annual curling tournament.

“Basically, what I’ve learned is even though I’m blind I still push myself as hard as I can,” he said.

Last year’s bonspiel raised $3,200 for CNIB, which uses the money for different programs such as their youth camps.

Hungry curlers who were coming off the ice were treated to some hot soup to keep them warm and ready for their next game.
