CORNWALL, Ontario –  The 19th annual Hike for Hospice is returning on Sunday, May 5.

This annual event raises money to support Carefor Hospice Cornwall, which helps out community members and their families during the most difficult of times.

Last year’s Hike for Hospice saw 150 hikers raise $54,173.

“One hundred per cent of the money stays in the community and goes towards the operations of the hospice,” said Sandy Collette, Carefor Fundraising Coordinator. “We only receive 50 per cent of our funding from the government and we have to raise the remainder, about $600,000.”

The primary sponsor of the event is the Morrisburg Legion.

There are hikers who come out every year to support Hospice Cornwall. One prolific hiker is Ray O’Colin, who typically raises $6,000 to $8,000 a year. Since 2013, O’Colin has raised $46,632 for hospice through his participation in Hike for Hospice.

To participate or to pick up a Hike for Hospice pledge form, stop by the Carefor office at 205 Amelia St. in Cornwall or visit www.chpca-ocsp.org/hike
