CORNWALL, Ontario – Cornwall based tech start-up FanSaves will represent Canada in Berlin, Germany this June at the Global Get in the Ring pitch competition, among 150 other selected start-ups from across the world.

FanSaves won the Get in the Ring Ottawa pitch competition on Thursday, April 4, facing off against six other start-ups that made it to the local finals, cut from 12 semi-finalists.

“Shannon did an amazing job in Ottawa, she knows the business so well and speaks with passion and I think the judges really felt that,” said Kris McCarthy, Co-founder of FanSaves.

FanSaves, Co-owned by Shannon Ferguson and Kris McCarthy, is a mobile app that offers fans discounts and deals from sponsors of their favourite sports teams, helping to increase sports team sponsorship sales and fan engagement. The local business has recently been in discussion with multiple OHL and NHL teams, and has hired three new employees.

The competition will showcase 350 innovators and inventors from 80 different countries at the three-day event. As one of only two start-ups from Canada to attend the pitch competition, Freguson and McCathy will be flown to Berlin and were awarded with many other prizes.

Get in the Ring is a pitch competition that takes place in cities around the world and sees startups go head-to-head in a boxing ring to pitch their business in front of judges and a live audience.

Get in the Ring Foundation is an organization that showcases start-ups on a global platform, fostering connections  and potential business growth. The Foundation is known for its competition style, where start-ups face off against each other in a boxing ring, pitching in front of judges and a live audience. A battle between two start-ups includes five 30-second rounds about the team, their achievements, financials and business model.

Additional to pitching at other events, FanSaves recently won a Cornwall Innovation Center (CIC) Pitch Competition.

“It’s exciting to see a Cornwall company represent Canada on the world stage,” said Eric Bergeron, Executive Director of the CIC. “We are fortunate to have such a group working right here in our city. They were one of the first companies to come through the Innovation Centre and are already a success story worthy of national attention.”
