CORNWALL, Ontario – Keeping the tradition afloat, about 120 individuals attended an afternoon of tea, desserts and chatting at St. Peter’s Parish on Wednesday, April 24.  CWL

Shirley Mallette MacDonald, member of St. Peter’s Catholic Women’s League, explained that tickets were $8 for members of the public and $5 for members of the League. The annual afternoon of tea has taken place in the Parish for over 35 years.

“We host this event for the CWL to raise money and we donate the money in the city. It goes to (charities and organizations like) Hospice, the Children’s Treatment Centre and bursaries for students.”

Donated items were available for purchase during the event and the remainder of the items will be sold at Paroisse Sainte-Thérèse-de-Lisieux on May 4, with proceeds going to St. Joseph’s Continuing Care Centre.

“It’s important to get everyone together…all the CWL members. We just love getting together, working together and everyone works hard. And everyone knows their job…and also, it continues to support the community,” said MacDonald.

Father Matthew Brunet was also present and indulging in some tea, commending the work of the League members who made the afternoon a possibility.
