CORNWALL, Ontario – The fourth edition of Quilts of the Seaway was unveiled in Cornwall from Friday, April 26 to Saturday, April 27.
More than 234 quilts and other projects were on display at St. John’s Presbyterian Church at the biannual event organized by the Cornwall Quilters Guild.
The works have been created over the past two years by the guilds 50 plus members.
Guild President Robynne Dorion said that the show is a great way for quilters to celebrate their passion.
“It is a great way to share our work and our community,” she said.
Dorion explained that one of the favourite features of the show are the bed turnings.
The guild would turn a bed with a new quilt in the church twice a day across both days of the show. Quilts were chosen by guild members for their unique stories and histories, which were shared during the turning ceremony.
“Bed turnings are hundreds of years old,” explained Dorion. “It’s a tradition where quilts were laid out on a bed to show the work and it has a longstanding history.”
In addition to the quilts, there were also 10 vendors at the show for anyone looking to purchase some quilting materials or related products.
Dorion encouraged residents to come out to the event.
“You need to come and see all of the beautiful work these ladies have done,” she said. “They are always happy to share their knowledge and their stories.”
