CORNWALL, Ontario – The Canadian Cancer Society of SD&G – Prescott-Russell has announced that their 2019 Daffodil Campaign raised $35,000 during the month of April.
“On any given day, more than 560 people will be diagnosed with cancer. That’s why we are always looking for new ways to prevent cancer, find it early and treat it more successfully. We know that fundraising enables change and we are grateful to our community for playing such a big part in advancing the cancer cause through their generosity” said Allison St-Jean, Community Fundraising Specialist with the Canadian Cancer Society in SDG & Prescott Russell.
The money raised will be used to support local programs like Wheels of Hope program that transports cancer patients to and from medical appointments. The money will also go towards life saving research.
According to the Canadian Cancer Society, today, 60 per cent of Canadians diagnosed with cancer will survive at least five years. This varies for different cancers, with breast cancer survivors having a survival rate of 87 per cent, 90 per cent for prostate cancer and 95 per cent for testicular cancer.
The Canadian Cancer Society still has work to do though, as one in two Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetimes.
