CORNWALL, Ontario – Naomi Lamarche and her mother Claudette Wanzer, are asking the community to sing their hearts out in support of Carefor Hospice Cornwall.

On Saturday, May 25 they will be holding their first ever Sing our Hearts out for Hospice fundraiser at the Agora Centre in Cornwall from 11 a.m. to midnight.

The first part of the event from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. will be kid friendly. Kids can get in for $5, and children under five-years-old get in for free. A full day pass for the event is $20.

A 50/50 draw will be held at 7 p.m. where participants from the Twoonie for a Tune karaoke have a chance to win half the pot. For $2, attendees of the event can participate in the Twoonie for a Tune fundraiser and get to sing a song while entering the 50/50 draw.

Lamarche hoped that a lot of children participate in the karaoke, and that it encourages them to volunteer and get more involved in their community.

“We hope that the kids who come and sing become future donors,” she said. “If they learn now that their talents will be accepted and appreciated, it will encourage them to get involved in the community more.”

The event will have karaoke and lip syncing with music provided by DJ Kelly Svendsen, all sponsored by AIM Recycling in Cornwall.

Starting at 8 p.m. until midnight, local band Radio Nova will be providing live music. Starting at 10 p.m. there will be a buffet dinner.

“A lot of people have approached us to do karaoke, so we opened it up and it is open to kids too so they can have some fun,” said Lamarche. “We were really touched by Hospice and we wanted to thank them for the great care they gave to my step-brother.”

In addition to the karaoke and lip syncing fun, there will also be more than 20 vendors selling items such as jewellry, handmade African clothing, wood signs, nail products and more.

The vendors will also be donating items to the event that can be won through a silent auction. Hospice has also used air miles that have been donated to them to contribute a few items to the silent auction including a lava lamp, crock pot and a $250 children’s kitchen set.

“Third party events such as this are  essential to us meeting our annual fundraising goal,” said Sandy Collette, Fundraising Coordinator with Carefor Hospice Cornwall. “We appreciate the effort that Naomi and her mother have put into organizing this day long event and wish them much success.”

Tickets are available at the Agora Centre, at the Carefor office on Amelia St. and at the door on the day of the event.

“Our success for this event relies on public support,” said Lamarche. “We are reaching out to kids and adults of all ages to help make this event successful.”
