LANCASTER, Ontario – The Township of South Glengarry opened up a new tourism information booth for the summer season, but with a twist.

This centre will showcase paintings created by local artists, which guests to the centre can buy.

Located in the parking lot of Rob McIntosh’s just off Hwy 401, Township of South Glengarry Economic Development Officer and Tourism Coordinator Shauna Baggs felt that the site was a good marriage between art and information.

“We wanted a little bit extra to get people through the door,” she said. “We have so many talented local artists in this area that we want to showcase.”

There are over 40 pieces of art being displayed and Baggs said that some paintings have already been sold.

The building being used for the new centre is actually the first sales booth that Rob McIntosh’s dad gave him to work out of at the start of his career.

“This is terrific, it couldn’t be better,” said Rob McIntosh. “We get so many people coming in off the highway it will be good for there to be someone they can ask questions to.”

The artists were pleased as well.

“I love it,” said artist Darleen Varley of Summerstown. “This is a really good use of this corner. Being a tourist bureau it is going to be great for people and great for us too.”

South Glengarry Mayor Frank Prevost applauded the efforts of his Tourism Department.

“I wanted to thank the artists who submitted their paintings and I wanted to publicly thank Shauna for bringing this all together,” he said.
