Police continue search for missing diver in Long Sault

SOUTH STORMONT, Ontario – SDG OPP officers have occupied Lock 21 on MacDonell Island along the Long Sault Parkway since about 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 11, the scene in which a scuba diver went missing in the St. Lawrence River.

The search will continue with OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit on Wednesday, June 12.

Preliminary investigation has indicated that just prior to 9 a.m. a diver returned to the shore and his diving partner, for reasons under investigation, did not surface.

SDG OPP is initiating a search with the assistance of the SDG OPP Marine Unit, South Stormont Fire Services, two Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) boats, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Canadian Coast Guard and the Joint Rescue Coordination Center from CFB Trenton with its helicopter.

As the investigation continues SDG OPP request the public to avoid the area.
