SOUTH STORMONT, Ontario – Set to open in July, SDG Library is excited to announce its first Little Free Library will take up residence at the Newington Fire Hall in South Stormont.

After a public voting campaign with a total of 1,282 votes pertaining to the first desired location, 50 per cent of voters vied to see the small book house at the Fire Hall. The first book house was created by students at Tagwi Secondary School and is ready to be installed. Leading up to its July implementation, Library staff will be seeking volunteers’ assistance with installation and indefinite maintenance.

“Other public libraries have undertaken similar projects with very positive results,” said Susan Wallwork, Communications and Marketing Librarian. “We are excited to bring this idea to our communities.”

The Little Free Library will encourage locals to adopt a ‘take a book, leave a book’ philosophy, complimenting the traditional library services already in place at each branch, offering an alternative access point for reading materials.

“SDG Library is looking forward to officially opening the Little Free Library in July, and if all goes well, other locations could be added in the near future. For more information on this project, or to become a Little Free Library volunteer steward, please contact Susan Wallwork at swallwork@sdglibrary.ca or (613) 936-8777 ext. 226,” read an SDG Library press release.
