CORNWALL, Ontario – Seven students will have the opportunity to start an entrepreneurial journey with the Summer Company program this summer, funded by a provincial grant and offered through the City of Cornwall Business Enterprise Centre.
The Summer Company launch took place from 11:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Cornwall Civic Complex on Friday, June 28 where members of the public could attend and meet the young, ambitious business people and see their products or services.
The businesses include photography sessions, tutoring services, homemade jams, homemade soap and candles, Yu-Gi-Oh! Cards and Strategy games, custom canvas and apparel artwork and stuffed animals/plush toys.
“Once again, we have a wide variety of businesses and a group of young but enthusiastic entrepreneurs. It will be exciting for us to assist them as they jump into the world of entrepreneurship,” said Candy Pollard, Business Consultant of the Cornwall Business Enterprise Centre, in a press release.
“The students get an opportunity to run their own business over the summer, gain some valuable experience they will likely use later on in life, whether its as an entrepreneur if they continue on with their business, or in their career in some capacity, or even in school,” said Ryan Kuhn, Program Coordinator with the Cornwall Business Enterprise Centre.
Through the program, selected students will learn basic business training, experience mentorship opportunities and have access to financial aid. Students reside in Cornwall and areas across SDG. This year no students from Akwesasne applied to the program, but are encouraged to in the future.
These student-run businesses can be found at local farmer’s markets, community events, online and on social media all summer. The program runs until the end of August when students return to school.
