North Glengarry to hold “Emergency Job Fair”

ALEXANDRIA, Ontario – The Township of North Glengarry is partnering with the Glengarry Inter-Agency Group (GIAG) and the Eastern Ontario Training Board (EOTB) to hold an job fair in Island Park in Alexandria on Wednesday, July 10.

The job fair is to fill more than 40 vacant positions across seven employers in the township.

Tara Kirkpatrick, Economic Development officer for the township said that the need for a job fair became evident after their annual consultations with local businesses.

The job Kirkpatrick says is in the highest demand is that of millwrights. Millwrights are technical experts who work with factory machinery. They are typically tasked with the operation, maintenance, and assembly of factory machinery.

Kirkpatrick emphasized though that the positions to be filled covered a range of occupations, levels of experience, and contract lengths.

She explained that they were looking to fill some white collar positions, like accountants, as well as general labour and skilled labour, like electricians. Kirkpatrick also said that positions to be filled covered a wide range of contract lengths from seasonal, to part-time, to full-time.

Kirkpatrick recommends that those interested in attending the job fair bring an updated résumé, an updated list of references and be ready for an interview.

If anyone attending the job fair needs help preparing, GIAG offers free tutoring services to help.
