CORNWALL, Ontario – Over 20 young locals showcased their skillful and freestyle dives at Reg Campbell Park on Saturday, July 13.

“It’s just a fun, friendly competition between our five outdoor pools,” said Lori Gibeau, Aquatic Coordinator with the City of Cornwall.

Gibeau explained that all competitors had registered and practiced every day for 45 minutes over the past two weeks leading up to the big diving event.

“It introduces kids to different aquatic sports. Not only does (the program) provide swimming skills but also a different means of a sport, and its a friendly competition. They also get to go see other pools in Cornwall,” said Gibeau.

Winners during the event will take home ribbons and goodie bags, filled with treats from a number of local sponsors.

The next sessions from July 15 to 26 will include synchronised swimming skill-building, with a competition on July 27. From July 29 into August, young locals can practice their speed swimming, and meet at another competition next month.

To get involved in upcoming programming, speak to workers are your local outdoor pool or visit the Aquatic Centre.
