CORNWALL, Ontario – While many youth in our region are out lounging by the pool or basking in the relaxation of summer, four Grade 4 students of École élémentaire catholique Notre-Dame (CSDCEO) used their time to band together to raise funds for the local MS Society of Canada.

“It’s really nice to see future generations get involved since we do not have a cure for (MS) yet,” said Emily Palmer, special events assistant with Cornwall and District Chapter of the MS Society of Canada. “To kind of keep that growing is very important…especially for a non-profit, every little thing counts.”

The four young boys, with the help of siblings, raised over $57 for the organization through selling special items that they made or designed, like candles.

“Lex’s mom has MS…we want to end MS and to make sure (nothing) bad can happen (to those with MS),” said Charles Descheneaux.

The MS Society is looking forward to its next big event, the MS Bike weekend, happening Aug. 17-18. Over 500 cyclists are projected to be in attendance and ride from the Nav Centre to Ottawa, and back. The event is expected to raise over $500,000.
