CORNWALL, Ontario – Ontario Power Generation (OPG) opened their doors at the St. Lawrence Power Development Visitor Centre for attendees to see how over 40 per cent of Ontario’s power is produced at their Electricity Day on Sunday, July 28.
The event had demonstrations about the different occupations and some of the science behind the hydro dam, including presentations on circuits, the eel ladder and maintenance of the hydro dam.
“We are looking to make today about education about both what we do at OPG, and also how we do it,” said Katelynn Delormier, an employee. “There is also a real focus on safety around dams for both our workers and visitors that we want people to definitely walk away with a better knowledge of.”
Equipment used by employees in their day-to-day work was also on display for visitors to engage with, to provide a more “hands-on” experience, according to Delormier.
“We have such a massive impact on Ontario’s power and a lot of people haven’t really ever seen what goes on here, so it is really nice to be able to share the work we do,” she said.
