Severe thunderstorm warning in effect for region
Thunderstorms in the forecast for Cornwall.

CORNWALL & SDG, Ontario – Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the Winchester and Newington area at 3:51 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 8.

A severe thunderstorm watch has also been issued for Cornwall, Lancaster, Maxville, Alexandria, Morrisburg and Long Sault.

“Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds and torrential rainfall,” read an Environment Canada statement.

Large hail is known to damage property and may cause injury. Intense lightning is likely assosiated with any thunderstorm that develops. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.
