CORNWALL, Ontario – Visitors were able to step into new spaces during Doors Open, an event showcasing a variety of historically and architecturally significant buildings around Cornwall and SD&G on Saturday, Aug. 17 and Sunday, Aug. 18.
A wide variety of buildings took part, including public and operational buildings like the NAV Centre and Cornwall Public Library, to historical buildings including the Sir John Johnson Manor House and former Bank of Montreal (BMO) Building.
“Doors Open is a great chance for everyone to come see what all of these buildings are like and really explore them, and also to learn what they are being used for now,” said Katie Burke at the former BMO Building.
While visitors at the former bank were free to roam its different floors, presentations of the building’s repurpose prospects as Cornwall Arts and Culture Centre were on display. A presentation of the Cornwall & Area Arts Hall of Fame was also on display.
“Having people come in and see what we are raising money to use this building for has been great,” said Burke. “Being able to answer questions from people about what we’re doing here and engage with them about the arts is a great product of this event.”
