UPDATE: Ninth St. re-opens after accident

UPDATE: 2019-08-19 3:40 p.m. Cornwall Police Service state that Ninth St. should be re-opened as of 4 p.m. on Monday after a fatal collision closed the street from Marlborough to Sydney earlier in the day.

CORNWALL, Ontario – Cornwall Police Service (CPS) confirmed that a fatal accident occurred on Ninth St. just east of Sydney St. at around 7:15 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 19.

The accident involved a motorcycle and a car.

“The driver of the motorcycle succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The driver of the car did not sustain injuries at the time of the collision,” reads a statement from CPS.

CPS said that they had notified the next of kin, but that no further details would be released at this time.

CPS said that the investigation is ongoing as of 10:30 a.m. and that they expected the street to be closed for several hours.

The CPS is asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision to please contact Detective Constable Darrell Blakely by calling 613-933-5000 ext. 2754 or ext. 2404 to leave anonymous information.
